Pastor of the Month

Meet The Pastors’ Circle, Director, Pastor Cynthia Keel, Associate Pastor New Life Covenant Church Southeast

CYNTHIA KEEL is a licensed and ordained minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the office of the evangelist, since 1992 by the order of Peace United Tabernacle and the late Apostle Reginald Walker. She is the firstborn of six and was raised in a solid Pentecostal home where her late parents were charter members of God’s All Nations Pentecostal Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Moses and Overseer Marvella Anderson on the westside of Chicago. It was there that she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of 11.

Her love for the Lord grew and her passion to know the Word was evident by her intense study as a teenager and young adult. She also sang in the choirs, served as worship service facilitator, became the choir secretary, learned church administration sitting with her mother in church business meetings, and was in the church band as trumpet player.

Cynthia married Reverend Reginald Walker in 1982 and became the mother of three children. She served as youth ministry leader, church secretary/administrator, and prayer warrior. She met Evangelist Joyce Harper and was appointed to serve with her on the Board of Directors of The Words Works Ministry/Daughters of Destiny. When Reverend Walker answered the call to serve as senior pastor, she worked passionately alongside him until his death in 2002.

At the untimely death of Apostle Walker, Evangelist Cynthia Walker was selected to serve as successor to the ministry and was installed as the senior pastor of Peace United Tabernacle in November 2002. She was passionate about teaching the accuracy of the Word of the Lord and developing strong leaders from the youth to the seasoned, including the functions of the fivefold ministry offices. The Lord guided her in developing sound business practices for the church and developing the music and arts ministry in their call as Levites, and the church was blessed to go from near foreclosure to mortgage payoff within three years.

Pastor Walker’s ministry later afforded her the opportunity to travel across the country as speaker/preacher, women’s day minister, retreat teacher, evangelistic and deliverance service speaker.

In 2009, she chartered Destiny Empowerment Evangelistic Ministries as a new ministry that the Lord birthed through her. Her passion for the Word of the Lord, developing ministry leaders, evangelism and outreach was sparked even more. She married Thomas A. Keel in 2012 and continued ministry as the pastoral and evangelistic levels. Her outreach included Breakfast and Bible Study, women’s recovery homes, inner-city schools, and more.

Pastor Keel currently serves as an Associate Pastor at New Life Covenant Southeast under the leadership of Pastor John Hannah. She is found working with the intercessory prayer ministry, teacher of the ministers-in-training, ordination review board member, The 4 am Prayer Team, coach/mentor and advisor to many of the congregants, and lead servant of The Pastors’ Circle, Pastor Hannah’s global pastors’ alliance. She continues to grow and elevate in the things of the Lord while advising others to do the same. Her passion is that all souls are saved and living for Jesus – for real! She is a sought-after speaker that provides practical application of biblical principles. She draws on her varied life experiences interwoven with academia and the Bible to provide informed, practical solutions to personal and professional life. Pastor Keel is also a sought-after prayer warrior and intercessor, teaching and leading in this area. She travels as a consultant for church leadership development and more.

As a bi-vocational minister and entrepreneur, she loves her family and enjoys time with her adult children, biological and bonus, along with the grandchildren who bring her joy! She also enjoys traveling and socializing with her BFFs.

Word of the Month

God gave me two words last fall for 2024: exodus and transformation. As I sat quietly with the Lord for the message related to the two words, much was revealed to me. Exodus: The Journey to Transformation -- what are we leaving to become the best and greatest of who and what God called us to be? There are so many variations in life, much that continues to evolve and some of us love a real sense of stability -- "please don't rock my boat!" Well, Jesus came to rock our boat so that we can get out of the boat and walk on the water! In essence, we are being called from our comfortable, safe places to move into territories unknown, conquer the world in necessary ways using means that may not have been used before, blaze the untrodden trail, and embrace the new that God refers to in Isaiah 43:19. Exodus (which is defined as exit, departure, leave, the road out) takes movement. Transformation is deeper than change.

It is a dramatic, thorough change in form or appearance; a metamorphosis during a life cycle; a conversion in the surface structure causing something to happen in the underlying deep structure; genetic alteration; or a heritable modification. What we leave will free us to cleave to the plan and purpose that God has for our ministry and destiny. We cannot dwell on the past and we must trust God to make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Remember the four stages of the butterfly: eggs, caterpillar/larva, chrysalis/pupa, and the adult butterfly. The look and feeding habits vary based on the stage of the transformation. Where are you in your transformation journey? When you look at your ministry, how do you and your leaders see your transformation? If it looks the same as it did last year or the year before, I encourage you to find "the road out" and pursue greater!
